Checked in with Customs and immigration knowing our 90 day US visa was due to expire on 4th. We expected to get an extension of a few days for grace. After all what threat are two mature English people on a yacht? No, no, no. Out. In no uncertain terms we had to be outside US waters by 4th Feb or else be deported at our own expense. It was OK for Jackster to stay. She had an annual cruising permit for US waters. As humans we had to leave US soil and re-enter on public transport, ie ferry or commercial aircraft to apply for another 90 day visa waiver.
The weather wasn't perfect, but we negotiated an extra day as long as we didn't step off the boat and go to land, and we left a day after our visas expired. The downside was that we couldn't stop at the next island that was St Thomas, US Virgin Isles, but had to carry on to the British Virgin Isles.
