30 Jan 2009  Puerto Rico hop

With Jackster refuelled in Ponce and our stores filled with goodies we set off for the Spanish Virgin Islands.  It was too far to make in one trip so we planned to make a hop along the south coast and overnight in Puerto Patillas.  We left Ponce with Indemnity and hooked up with Pat and Alex on R'Pelican on the way.  Coming into PP there was a minefield of fishing buoys marking the baskets underneath.  OK if you're sailing, murderous if you go over one when the propeller is turning.  Can spoil your day very easily.  We missed then all.

Dropping the anchor we disturbed a manatee that must have been graving on the grass below us.  He / she came up to the surface with an indignant huff, grabbed a lungful of air and was off again.  Sorry manatee, we didn't mean to frighten you.

Anchorage was very rolly so we were actually looking forward to getting up at 4.15am next morning.
