Awoke after our first full nights' sleep for 3 nights feeling rested. Long passages aren't physically tiring if the weather is good, but taking turns to so the night watch must have an effect. We'd been told Cartagena was hot, humid, smelly and dirty. Not so. Our night was cool and quiet and the water's not that dirty considering this is a working harbour.
The night time scene reminded me of Miami or New York with the street lights and car headlamps at street level and looming above these the tall blocks of hotels and apartments for the richer locals and international visitors. Between the drug money and the US monies poured in to fight the drug trade this is a cash rich city.
The cruisers' net, or the comedy breakfast show as we call it, came on and gave us a good chuckle to start the day. There is a community of cruisers who have been here for weeks and months and they are evangelical about organising. Organising anything. From volleyball at 2.30, early morning tennis all welcome, bring your own raquet, dominoe tournaments (we tried explaining in England you don't start playing dominoes until your 70th birthday and then it's only junior league), bridge evenings, gas bottle refills and Cruises Christmas Lunch. Strangely, it seems it's Americans leading the onslaught and the Europeans are rarely heard.
Inspiration Lady and Anthem sailed in this morning and we got together for dinner and a beer in the evening.
