Saturday, 16 January More lobsters

Today's fishermen came with the really big boys. A good 6lbs lobster, a 4lb one and a crab caught this morning and delivered to your house for less than an everyday bottle of wine is not a bad deal. Add a beautiful view, sunshine and a cooling breeze and you get the picture – pretty darn fine.
We decided we need some exercise to build our appetite for the feast to come so throw our bright pink kayak into the water and head off exploring the four islands around us. On the first we start a fire, not because we're pyromaniacs, or to cook supper, but to burn our rubbish. The San Blas, or Kuna Yala as the local population call them, are un developed, there are no rubbish facilities, and good for us, no resort hotels. Whatever you bring in has to be handled responsibly. Tins and glass bottles are washed and stored on board until we reach a place on the mainland with disposal, everything else is burnt on the beach.
After paddling to each island and walking around each one, it was time to kayak back for supper. Super supper was the big lobster thrown on the barbecue and served with garlic butter and potato salad. Only thing missing was a glass of chilled Chablis. The last time I had a lobster like this was at the Whitstable Bay Oyster restaurant in Kent. That was good. This is sweeter and tastier and I'm not looking out at a cold and grey Thames Estuary.
