What a lovely wet summer! It rained for most of the day but cleared in time for us to go to a farewell party aboard Dignity. Tomorrow the Dignities leave with their sons, Ben and Sam for New Year in Auckland and two week road trip before the boys fly back to the US. For us, we know we'll see Steve and Helen either later in the NZ season or in Fiji.
The party was a good one. We estimate there were 20 people from 8 boats. Being alongside in a marina is like being in a village – you know most people and often pop in for an impromptu hello as you pass. For example last night we were in the cockpit finishing dinner and Kim from Emily Grace walked passed. The invitation went out. 'Come and have a glass of wine'. Kim came aboard and then her daughter Emily passed and climber aboard, finally Tom looking for his girls discovered them and he came too.
Back to Dignity's party. It must have been a blue moon because not only were we early (almost unheard of) but we were the first to arrive. We may be able to change our spots on a rare occasion, but reverting to form we were the last guests to leave.
