Saturday 9 July Blue Lagoon

If it's Saturday we must be moving on to Blue Lagoon made famous by two films of the same name, the first starring Vivian Leigh and the second in 1979 with Brooke Shields. The Blue Lagoon is a long island with a classic beach along the southern two thirds, a resort on the northern part and two islands between it and the open sea making for a protected anchorage. However, as you might expect it's the most commercial and tourist trap place we've been to. For example the Blue Lagoon beach is owned by Blue Lagoon cruises and off limits to anyone who is not on their cruise ship. Private yachts are allowed to anchor off the resort, Moorings charter boats get the middle portion and the south is for the cruise ships.

The closest we hoi polloi can get is passing by in our dinghy. It's not that spectacular of a beach to make us feel left out and we have lots of other things to do like walk to the other side of the island for tea and cakes. Jackster had arrived in the anchorage first and followed in by Tahina and Stray Kitty. Chris on SK is a 'let's do it' man which is great for us – instead of leaving the walk to tomorrow morning we grabbed our shoes and sun hats and set off in search of cake. The path over the hill linked the resort with the village on the other side so easy to follow. On the other side Lo's tea shop served us a cup of tea and a splendid chocolate cake covered in sweet sauce. All walks should have a reward to look forward to.

Our reward for making it back to the resort where we'd started was a cold beer. Unfortunately while the bar in the resort was happy to take our money, as non house guests the best comfy seats were off limits and we were directed to a table by the beach. At Volivoli resort at Nananu the NZ owners welcomed us to use all the facilities and even took our rubbish with a smile.
