Sunday 8 January Back to Opua

Yesterday's storm cleared as quickly as it came. Where we were anchored under the cliffs the strongest wind we saw was 25 knots. We heard it was 40 knots on the course and only 25 of the expected 60 boats took part – the rest were like us and stayed in port.

Chrisander's Dream overtaking old ship
Back in Opua we went to the yacht club for Sunday roast dinner and met friends who had been brave enough to venture out in the race yesterday. They came 2nd in their class but at the cost of a ripped mainsail and a water logged boat. One crew member mentioned the water was up to her knees and she was in the cockpit.
