Saturday 27 October Ilot Casy

In the middle of Baie de Prony is the uninhabited Ilot Casy. There used to be a small hotel here but it's now abandoned. Well almost abandoned except for a dog that was left behind. Locals come out here at weekends to camp in the grounds of the derelict hotel and cruisers come to tie up to the free mooring balls.

Other cruisers had told us about the dog – a big, friendly guy who loves the food brought to him. He must have heard our engine as we approached because he was sitting on the dock waiting for us (more correctly waiting for the food). We named him Casey.
On the hotel verandah we found a bowl for food and water bowls left out for him. He wolfed down the tin of Spam and had a lick of the fresh water. Who left him? Why hasn't anyone adopted him because he's a friendly dog, well mannered and loves company. He took us for a walk around the island, running on ahead and then coming back to make sure we were taking the right paths and there were times when we'd have taken the wrong one if he hadn't popped his head around the corner as if to say 'this way'.
Later in the day we came back with another tin of meat for him. I hope he appreciated the mileage that tin had covered. It was the last of the supply we bought in Panama 2 ½ years ago as an islander giveaway / swap as we crossed the Pacific.
