From
Cukai the rally continued north. We have a few days free before the
next event in Terangganu. We made two stops the first only and
overnight on a marine park mooring ball in Tenggol island and the
second, a longer break, at Pulau Kapas.
We like
the anchorage at Kappas a lot; sandy bottom, good holding, reef for
diving and snorkelling and enough of an island to explore.
We
arrived Friday afternoon and were quickly off in the dinghy to visit
local dive shops to find out the best spots for diving and at the
same time popped our (dinghy) nose into a cave of fruit bats.
Next
morning, Saturday, we went for a dive on the coral garden to the
north of Gem island and did what is possibly the longest dive of my
career – 95 minutes. We were able to do this because depths are
rarely more than 10m and because we had so much to see we didn't want
to come back. There was a perfect yellow box fish, the (now) usual
anemone heaven and quite a few nudibranchs to keep me and my
magnifying glass occupied. It's not the best dive ever but it was
pleasant and therefore enjoyable in warm water with good visibility
and no current.
Late afternoon we all gathered on the beach for a no rules game of beach cricket. It was high tide so deep field meant standing in the sea, hitting a dinghy with the ball scored six runs and tripping while running in the sand a natural hazard.
