It
should have been a simple departure; we had our port clearance
brought to the boat at 10am, decks freshly washed, lines were ready
to slip and the tide had turned to ebb. Just at that point the
gremlins decided to strike; the bowthruster failed to respond to it's
'on' switch. It was dead despite a check through all the electrical
systems two days ago. David quickly effected a hot wire for the
faulty switch and we were back in business and off the dock.
Heading
down to our planned anchorage south of the Tuas bridge (a second
bridge between Singapore and Malaysia) we discovered the out haul
switch for the main sail was also dead. Had we had a near miss from
one of the daily thunderstorms or a coincidence?
