This
morning the north east trades switched to an easterly breeze and
needing to make tracks north we took the opportunity to sail up to
Palompon on the west coast of Leyte. It would be an excellent typhoon
anchorage if you needed one as you come in through reefs and anchor
between the big island and a long mangrove island in 14m mud.
We'd
left Santiago late and arrived here at sunset. It would have been
nice to find a restaurant but Palompon isn't a tourist town. What is
does have is an vibrant market selling good fruit and vegetables and
two stores spit roasting chickens.
So
our Valentine dinner this year was roast chicken, baguettes (bought
Bohol and stored in the freezer) and salad with the last bottle of
wine from our stores seated at the best table in town, ours.
