By
the time we left Miri the wind had completely died and we motored
along the coast picking up the afternoon onshore breeze to sail as
much as we could. The prop seems happier but it was a case of deja
vu.
Twenty
minutes after leaving Bintulu commercial harbour pre dawn the dreaded
violent judder returned both in forward and reverse gears. We went
straight to neutral and dropped the anchor to sit out an approaching
storm. It was just one of those days. David tried to turn the prop
shaft from inside the engine room to find it was jammed solid both
ways after several turns. Time for another dive and in the clear,
crocodile free water he found a palm frond shredded around the prop.
It didn't take him long to disentangle the horse hair type fibres and
we could be on our way once more.
All
character building adventures from which we've now dried our tears
and are laughing once more....until the next thing. After all, it is
a boat.
