The
passage from Galle to Uligan (or Uligmnu as many places have
different spellings) was an easy three days. Checking in using Real
Seahawks was easy and painless. The anchorage at Uligan is easy too.
There is a shallow area close to the boat passage but we felt the
swinging room to be marginal for Jackster and opted to anchor a
little further out in 20m.
When
we checked in we also signed up for the first ever Sail Maldives
Yacht Rally. The official start date was three days ago and the
fleet had already moved on. Assad gave us our complimentary SIM
cards with 1GB data, rally shirts and caps. All that was needed now
was for the authorities in Male to issue our cruising permits and we
could begin cruising in the Maldives.
To
navigate through the Maldives we used Navionics which was a broad
stroke view of lands and depths, copies of Admiralty charts which we
bought for ?2
each from the copy shop in Kuah, Langkawi, and the most useful, most
accurate resource, Ovital android app which uses Google Earth shots
and allowed us to see exactly where we are in relation to a reef /
bommie / clear sand spot.
