Rally
organiser Hanyff had planned an island visit to Gonaa Faru for us
today, but this is his first experience of sail boats and his chosen
anchorage was in a lagoon surrounded by reef less than 2m deep and no
boat passage. He assured us he had asked the island council to ask
the fishermen about the depth and they said 'no problem'. It was a
problem for us and the mother ship / support boat which has a 3.5m
draft. The cruisers found an alternative place to anchor for the
night between Kanditeema and Goidhoo in 28m. Two boats without
sufficient chain or without a windlass tied to the mother boat.
Hanyff
was apologetic for his error and invited everyone to Mother ship for
drinks with a free bar. Hurrah! We also left with one large fish
(for us) and one small fish for Polly all caught by the boat crew.
It was dusk when we were back on Jackster and David set up in the
cock pit to clean the fish. BUT. We were invaded by the biggest
plague of mosquitoes I've ever seen. Clouds of them and all big and
aggressive. We dived below, closed all windows and switched on the
air conditioning.
This
was a functional anchorage – not particularly scenic and a plague
of mosquitoes at dusk.
