14 March Providencia diving

The eponymous Sonny of Sonny's dive shop has taken us out for three days of diving on sites to the north and east of the anchorage. The distances are too far to go by dinghy and would be impossible to find for someone unfamiliar with the area. Local knowledge is a must have.
On the first dive, Contour, we dropped off the boat and swum down to the reef at 8m and then out to the wall which was being cruised by three grey reef sharks. These guys are as friendly as puppies, coming in close to check out their visitors. After the dive I asked Sonny if they had ever been fed and he said, yes at one time they were. Hence their familiarity with divers.
Second dive of the day was a WW2 wreck of a German fuel barge called El Planchon. It lies upside down and has no internal access. More interesting than the hull was the surrounding reef where we found nurse sharks sleeping under the rocks.
Day two we dived different sections of the wall, again accompanied by our pet sharks and on day three we dived Colony site and another dive on wreck El Planchon.
Three days was sufficient to get a good feel for the diving, anymore and it would be almost the same dive with a different name. The water is clear and warm, currents are very slight to non existent; pleasant and easy Caribbean diving. Sonny and his crew looked after us well and safely, collecting us and our kit from Jackster at 9am each morning and dropping us back on board at lunchtime.
