26 February Anchors away

The first two days here have been windy – gusting to the mid twenties. On our third night here we had just finished watching a film when we heard the anchor alarm beeping. A quick look at the handheld Garmin which we use as our alarm confirmed we'd moved backwards about 10m. Fortunately depth is a level 4m and we had half a mile between us and the commercial dock.
First we re-anchored to the right of our original position. It held for an hour before slipping once more. Then we tried to the left of our original position and still we were slowly slipping. By now it was 1 o'clock in the morning, we'd concluded the bottom is a layer of sand over rock and our safest plan was to have one of us in the cockpit on watch through the night and in daylight find a better spot.
The better spot was forward at the front of the designated yacht anchorage through a clutch of fishing boats. We found an 8m deep channel and dropped he hook at the hook in 8m 12°34.714N 81°41 733W and falling back to rest in 7 to 8m. Now we're closer to the shore, closer to Nene's marina with more wind protection and improved free internet connection. Win win.
(at the end of our visit we hadn't moved from this spot despite some periods of strong winds.)
