If
the chart plotter had been working we would have taken the direct
route to Nassau motoring in about three metres depth across the Grand
bank to the Berry islands and then a short hop to Nassau. Without
clear charts we took the safer, deep water route around the Grand
Banks which took a day.
Forty
miles from our destination I was on watch watching the many cruise
ships coming and going. David came on deck after his off watch with
an idea and something in his hand. He opened the card slot of the
chart plotter and put in our old Caribbean chip. He turned on the
plotter and it worked. Ergo the problem which left us without a
chart plotter, AIS info, etc was a corrupt card. The new one which
we bought four months ago.
As
soon as we're in port and Internet connected I'll be contacting
Navionics...
