the beach and dock at Grabbers |
The
distances between our stops are short – about 5 miles from Man O
War to Great Guana Cay. We arrived on Thursday afternoon before the
start of a 4 day holiday weekend; Friday is Labour Day and Monday
Whit Monday. The anchorage in Delia Bay is nicely protected from
north through to south and quiet enough.
A
restaurant called Grabbers has a dock where you can take the dinghy.
Grabbers was lively this Thursday afternoon with the music pumping
and their clients having a party. Young tanned dudes with perfect
teeth and a cold beer in their hand. What's not to be happy about?
Us
old fogeys strolled the beach road, another island where the golf
cart rules the roads, and across the Atlantic side to see the famous
five mile sandy beach. It is a long and sandy beach perfect for
walking and swimming because it is protected from swell by the outer
reef. There's another party bar / restaurant here and this ones
called Nippers. Grabbers and Nippers, similar names, both have lobster on the menu.

Quincy prepares conch |

Take one shell.. |
Strolling
back we met a local man, Quincy, preparing conch for dinner. A
lovely guy. He showed us how to extract a conch from it's shell and
then which parts are kept for eating and what is the digestive tract
and goes back to the sea should we ever want to prepare one
ourselves.
