8 February I married a genius

I can't find enough superlatives to describe my incredible, genius husband today. He dogged, determined, indefatigable, gifted, et cetera, et cetera. Why do I say this? What has he done to deserve such praise? He's only gone and fixed the bloody generator! The one that electronics expert said was beyond repair and needed replacing at great expense and effort.

You may be thinking why now? The knee he damaged falling out of bed has healed, as has the toe he split kicking a winch so after another round of negative comments from Phasor on the isolated ground issue David rolled up his metaphorical sleeves and took up position over the dead generator once more on the basis that you can't make a dead generator any worse.  This time genius David was back!  He found one frayed wire within a bunch of 40 identical wires that linked the control box with the generator body.  Replacing this was straight forward, but he came crashing down to earth again when this repair didn't solve the problem.  He was convinced this was the problem so now started to check the work of the 'expert' and found that he had switched the order of wires around, perhaps because he felt there was no need to be precise.   With a wiring diagram to hand David checked all the connections and found two wires in the wrong order.  A quick switcheroo and Eureka! We had 236v and 50Htz and all was well with the world.  I don't know who was more electrified,  David or the Onan!

  1. Hi Dave and Jacqui! I was sorry to hear all the rigamarole you guys had to go through. Been there, done that too many times! But, I'm glad the situation gave you the incentive to get in and solve it yourself and save some money - for now. All the best to you guys!

  2. I sent a comment the wrong way as annonymous. I was just was saying I was sorry you went through all the rigamorale, but were in the end able to fix it yourself. But, I would keep saving some pennies for the day when you actually have to replace it. All the best to you guys! Have fun out there.
