16 Nov 2008 First landfall

A surprisingly easy first sail.  David stayed awake for as long as he could through the night while Jacqui and Neil succumbed to the sleep of the seasick.  We were still getting our sea legs while Cap'n was too excited (or nervous) to sleep.  This was my first experience of sailing through the night and the first time I'd been out of sight of land when at the helm.  There were plenty of cruise ships making the crossing from Miami to Bahamas though none came close.  There was one large bright light on the horizon around midnight. It appeared and seemed to be getting bigger and bigger and coming right at us.  Big egg on my face when David pointed out that it wasn't a dangerous ship, rather the moon rising.  Don't intend to make the same mistake. We arrived in Nassau at 8am and went into a marina for the night as the anchorage didn't look kind.
