We got the twisted anchor straightened and waited for a good weather window to carry on to Rum Cay. This took 10 days. In those 10 days we bid au revoir to our third musketeer, Neil, who had to return home to Manchester. It had been a big bonus to have him with us on the first leg and we were going to miss his cheeky smile, though there would be more biscuits left in the box :)
In those 10 days we were also introduced to a key aspect of the cruising lifestyle - cocktails, or sundowners, on other boats. I had no idea it was such a big thing with rules ground in tablets of stone.
Rule 1: When invited thy will bring your own drinks including glasses and ice.
Rule 2: Thy will bring a plate of canapés. Note that a bowl of peanuts is not classed as a canapé.
Rule 3: Never ask to use the heads on a boat owned by an American. Cross you legs and wait until you get back to your own boat or suffer the consequences of ex-communication from the community. Of course, if you're a man you can go forward and 'check the anchor'.
