6 Dec 2008  Perfumed land

Sailed through the night and arrived in Turks & Caicos just before dusk.  On the way in we were greeted by a pod of bottlenose dolphins that surfed our bow wave.  I swear they were turning on their sides to be able to look up at the grinning idiots leaning over the rail above them.  They are beautiful creatures that I never tire of watching.
As we drew closer to the island there was a heady perfume in the air.  I was told that as you approach land from a time at sea you can smell it, but this was so wonderful I just had to keep inhaling through my nose. it was intoxicating, almost narcotic.   And the cherry on top of my birthday cake that evening was a glorious sunset.  One of the most magnificent I've ever had the joy to see.
