It was one of those days when you have to shake yourself out of bed and get going fast. Things to do, places to go. Number one priority was for me to go into Willemstad with Jack and Jackie, a veritable trio of Jacks, a winning hand at poker, to the copy shop to get our sea charts for a song. How it works is when someone takes a chart in to be copied, the shop also keeps a copy on computer for people like me to buy and at a significant saving over the cost of an original assuming you can find them. We use paper charts as a for route planning and as a back up to the electronic charts. We needed San Blas islands immediately and planning ahead, we took Pacific, NZ and Australia charts. A couple of hours later clutching my bundle of information we dashed back to the boat to prepare to raise anchor and move to a bay at the north of Curacao ready to hop off to Colombia tomorrow night.
The sail north was perfect. With wind on the beam, a following sea and a 2 knot current with us we set a new personal best speed over ground. 10.6 knots with a shot of the speedo to prove it! Jackster was flying along like a thoroughbred in the final straight in The Epsom Derby and we were grinning with delight. We covered the 25 miles in just over 3 hours and pulled into Boca Santa Cruz and dropped anchor behind 2 other boats. It was dinner under the stars that night.
