Sunday, 10 January Heaven to Hell

Our anchor is up at 6am and we motor out into the morning. The forecast for today is benign so we are expecting to have to motor until the winds pick up later in the day. Nobody told the winds they were meant to be light today because 10 minutes later we have sails out, engine off and are gliding along at a grand 7+ knots. The wind is right of the beam, the best angle for us, and waves are 8'on our starboard quarter giving an uncomfortable screwing roll. The action is so uncomfortable that for the first time since we started our voyage I take a seasickness tablet to control the nausea I feel whenever I go below. Of course David feels no ill effects and graciously cooks us chilli con carne for supper.
As night comes on the wind strengthens and the waves seem to moderate. Or we've just got used to them and can't what;s behind us. We reduce sail, speed through the water to 7 to 7.5 knots though with a 2 knot foul tide we are only making 5 to 6 knots over ground, and get ourselves comfortable for the night. These aren't storm conditions, wind is steady at force 4 and it's dry. Jackster copes with it all and looks after us.
