Tuesday, 5 January Haul out day

The anchor was up by 7.15am for the estimated half an hour motor to the marina. However, we hadn't allowed for the barnacle encrustation on the propeller which meant our maximum revs were half of what we normally expect. Still we arrived in time and motored into the slip. Bump! And stop. There wasn't enough water on the entrance to the slip and our keel had kissed the bottom. The marina manager advised we wait an hour while the tide came in and we'd try again. We used the hour to dissemble our forestay and lash in to the side of the boat in line with the main mast. There is no travel lift in Cartagena of sufficient length to lift Jackster without removing our headsail.
A couple of hours later and she came out of the water and was in her props ready for us to begin. Our first day in the yard was hot, dirty and dusty as all boatyards are. Night time was cooler because of the strong breeze blowing, but not strong enough to bat away the mosquitoes. I thought mosquitoes were only active at dusk and dawn and only flew a few feet off the ground. These Cartagenian pests weren't playing by the rules, active all night and 10 feet above the ground
