Wednesday, 6 January Day 2 on the hard

We made good progress today, the water & oil mix was drained from the transmission and then cleaned through with thinners and the little bit of acetone we'd brought with us. Acetone is banned from sale in Colombia because it's an essential ingredient in the the manufacture of drugs. What do the girls use to remove old nail polish? Paint thinners?
Then we tackled pulling the propeller off its shaft. Most complicated with a self pitching autoprop. The yard's mechanic had never seen one of these 'rabbit ear' props and was keen to watch David working on it to learn how they should do it. David is a mechanical genius. Together we cajoled, worked the propeller off the shaft and removed the failed oil seals.
To beat the mozzies tonight I've hung the beautiful white nylon, with frills along the top edge, mosquito net we bought in the Chinese Emporium in Bonaire. It turns our humble cabin into a romantic boudoir and a bug free zone.
