After diving for scallops in the Noises we moved a mile to the sheltered Maori Garden Bay on Rakino island. It was a delight. We were the only boat in this protected anchorage; cliffs ahead of us giving protection from westerly winds and tucked inside a reef to give us a flat calm night. There were many houses above us but I think they were weekend bachs (NZ for holiday cottage) as there were no lights seen after dark.
