Sunday 17 July Au revoir

Amy and Andrew at Waya Lai Lai
Amy and Andrew's last day with us. They have places booked on the Yasawa Flyer, a ferry that's run from Denerau up the Yasawa chain and back each day. They were being picked up at the Waya Lai Lai resort so we moved around to anchor in front, a tenuous spot but OK for an afternoon in light winds.

Waya Lai Lai is a different type of resort, owned and run by the villagers, and very friendly. We were invited to help ourselves to tea and cake at the restaurant and when the nice lady found we were taking our guests in our dinghy out to the Flyer offered to have their boat pick them and their luggage up from us. A completely different attitude to the upmarket, probably foreign owned, Blue Lagoon resort which was decidedly unwelcoming.

A fond farewell to our friends and sad because we don't know when we'll next see them. They are headed to Australia on a one year working visa. Hopefully we can keep in touch by email.

After we'd said goodbye it was a mad scramble to lift the anchor and reach Navadra island before dark. We made it just as the sun was going down – a scary moment of reducing depth under the keel as we entered the bay and a close up view of the reef below us. We anchored ahead of Stray Kitty who'd arrived earlier in the day and behind Paikea Mist. Looking forward to exploring the beautiful beach tomorrow.
