Robinson Crusoe resort in on Likuri island on the south west coast of Vitu Levu and is well known for the fire and dance shows they put on every Wednesday and Saturday nights for guests, yachties and tour groups coming out from the main island. You pass through a half mile channel in the reef which opens into a wide and shallow bay off the mainland. Unlike Musket Cove and Denerau this is more user friendly, less chi chi and much less costly. It was F$1 plus a beer at the bar for lifetime membership of their yacht club. This entitles one to a discount for the dinner and dance show and incredible value it was. A mere F$15 / £5 included a cava drink ceremony on the beach, fire walking demonstration on the hot stones from the lovo oven, roast pork and beef buffet and an excellent hour and a half of dancing and fire dancing. The dancing was more impressive for being performed by the resort staff.

The dancing finished and we went home. At least the terrestrial show was ended, not quite the celestial show. At midnight we were wakened by light rain coming through the overhead hatch and less than a minute later we were blasted by a squall with lightning and thunder. Our sun awning came adrift in places and the wind generator was screaming like a banshee – David donned waterproofs, life had vest and a lifeline to go on deck to secure the awning and tie off the wind generator before it flew off in a frenzy. For an anxious hour we watched the storm and the other boats. It passed and we went gratefully back to bed.
