It was of those magical days with clear skies and not a breathe of wind. A perfect day for taking the dinghy around to the south side of the sand bank to snorkel the less visited side. We buzzed out with our 5hp motor while the Sidewinders blasted under the influence of their 15hp. However...when we arrived ad looked in the water all we saw was a coral striped wall. The power of the waves or bleaching of Crown of thorns starfish had killed all the coral and it was a sandy coloured wall with very little on it. There were whip corals indicating current and on the top of the reef a few outcrops of hardy corals with juveniles hanging around. This was the cheap end of town with low nutrients in the water to sustain much growth. We went. We swam. We came home and scrubbed the green fur off our waterline.
But the good news is CD, aka Chrisandaver's Dream, has arrived. We haven't seen our chums, Chris and Dave since NZ so we zapped over to say hi and arranged to meet them at the island bar later.
The island bar was hopping this evening; Bamboozle, Sidewinder, CD, Hiraith, a Welsh boat with Steve and Suzie, Idyll Island, Malarkey and many others too numerous to mention. All in all a lovely day and a lively night.
