Thursday 1 November Ilot Brosse

Just three miles south of Kuto bay is Ilot Brosse, first named Brush Island by Captain Cook in 1774 for it's resemblance to a hairbrush on it's back. The pine trees are the bristles and the low scrub covered land to the west the handle.

Ilot Brosse
We carefully entered the small reef encircled lagoon and dropped the anchor in clear turquoise water. We'd come in search of diving and the surrounding reef walls seemed a good place to start. Using the glass bottom bucket we went off searching to find only dead coral, walls with very little life and few fish – not worth getting wet for. Snorkelling in the inner reef was similar with not much to see. The highlights of our one night visit was the beautiful views and watching four dolphins leisurely hunting for their supper.
