Friday 29 November Exploring

Brisbane south bank with Ferris wheel
original Parliament buidling

Lady Speaker in the chair

Treasury building, now a hotel
The temperature is rising. It's much hotter here than we've been used to, in New Caledonia it was 25c, in Brisbane we're in the low thirties and with he ozone layer depleted it's a burning sun. So with sunscreen applied and hats on we set off to see the sights of the city; a tour of the parliament buildings, a visit to the Museum and wandering along the South Bank brought us back to the dinghy dock early evening feeling like we'd put in the effort. In the Parliament house we had a full tour as Government has gone home for summer recess. We were allowed to sit in the chair of the Speaker of the House for photos but weren't allowed to sit in the Governors chair in the upper house – that is reserved for the Queen and the Governor, plebs are not allowed.
The museum was both informative and a welcome respite from the heat outside. Wandering along the South Bank was a double memory jog; with the modern theatre and it's Ferris wheel it was reminiscent of London's South Bank and I visited Brisbane Expo on this site when I was in Australia on a working visa many years ago.
