When
David and l lived in London we regularly went for a cycle ride along
the Thames riverside path. Brisbane has it's own riverside path for
cyclists and pedestrians in fact Brisbanites seem dedicated to being
outdoors and keeping fit from the number of people we've spotted out
and about.
We
decided to join them and loaded our folding bikes into the dinghy for
a precarious water ride against the incoming tide to dinghy dock at
Eagle Street Pier. There we unloaded and unfolded our trusty port
hoppers and headed off along the north shore. It's a lovely path
with good signage and plenty of users. A couple of miles down river
we came to the last stop for the free river ferry on the north side.
When the ferry came we used it to cross to the other side of the
river a for the return route around Kangaroo Point, originally the
site of the early wharfs and a stone quarry it's now an upmarket
suburb with glorious views of the city. We needed to cross the
river again to get back to our starting point and used the Goodwill
footbridge from the South Bank back to the Botanical Gardens and
passing Jackster on the way.
In
the evening we were invited to Micromegas for a fish fondue. Fish
Fredy had caught on the trip over from New Caledonia and a table top
fondue Chantal had found earlier this week. Fish poached in a
bouillon with dipping sauces and rice – simple and tasty.
