Our
first full day seemed to be spent on preparation. We started at a
quarter after dawn, that is 7.30am, and finished at half past sunset,
8pm and yet we didn't seem much further on than last night. We began
by scraping off the last odd barnacles attached to rudder, under the
keel and in the through hulls then we dropped the heavy anchor and
chain out to reduce weight in the bow and to wash with fresh water.
We'd gone around the yard on the scrounge for trestles and planks to
work on the topsides.
David
was trying our assortment of acids and cleaning products to remove
grey exhaust stains and orange tannin (possibly from a river in
Borneo) from our dull and dirty fibreglass. Nothing was working like
magic, On Off, oxalic acid, muriatic acid, hull cleaner, etc until we
tried our last product (as suggested via a search on Google) toilet
cleaner. Bingo! Household toilet cleaner, the thick stuff which
comes in a bottle with a shaped neck, cut through the orange staining
and reduced the grey. It's my new wonder product and a fraction of
the price of 'marine' hull cleaner.

While
he was doing that I was removing the remains of Propspeed from the
prop. This time we'll be applying Primacon as a first coat for
adhesion and then antifoul.
When
it was too dark to continue we showered and cycled to the Indian
restaurant for a snack.
Another
day without rain.
