We had a
sweet dive around the small islet about a mile south of the anchorage
at Teluk Tekek. For the first time since Komodo the coral was
healthy and alive with fish. OK this is a marine park so one would
expect to find coral and fish but the Surins and Similans in Thailand
are also marine parks and they have little of either.
I called
this a sweet dive for the ease of diving; the water is 31c,
visibility good, no currents and nothing deeper than 12m just working
ones way around an island. If the coral is to your right you are
going the right way to come back to the dinghy. There are anemones
and clown fish everywhere. A couple of Hawksbill turtle were
oblivious to our presence and continued eating. Towards the end of
the dive we chanced upon a Devil Scorpionfish shuffling across the
sand.
If this
is the standard of diving East Malaysia we're ready for more.
