Tawau
– the last stop on Sail Malaysia Passage to the East, the rally
which we joined in Johor Bahru and have followed to the east coast of
Sabah, Borneo. There have been many highlights and an ocassional
disappointment. The last disappointment, the biggest one for us, is
the promised diving in Sipadan is not going to happen. Despite the
head of tourism in Sabah saying he'd arrange a boat to take us there
it didn't materialise.
However,
we're here in Tawau anchored off the yacht club with it's excellent
facilities, bar, restaurant, gym, sauna, swimming pool and tennis
court, for the next week before we continue on to Indonesia with
Rally to Raja Ampat.
We
went ashore in the afternoon for a walk into town. Being a Sunday
most shops were closed so it was a short walk before coming back to
the club for a swim before dinner. Mr Li manages the Chinese
restaurant and cooks excellent food. There's no menu he advises
which meats and seafood he has and you pick how they are cooked.
Tonight we tried fried squid, chicken and vegetables and sweet and
sour pork – all excellent and very good value.
