Sunday 7 September Telok Korakora anchorage

halo around sun=low level cloud
Yesterday we enjoyed our final diving at Wori bay before moving a mere 12 miles up the coast to Telok (bay) Korakora for an overnight and to dive the outer reef here.
From the information on the electronic charts one would expect depths in excess of 20m. The satellite image clearly shows a wide entrance between two reefs with a long inlet surrounded by mangroves. Information posted in the blog of Gryphon II who came this way a year ago also suggested this would be a good spot to stop and it is. The reef is clearly visible at the entrance, depth here 39m and gradually shallowing as you go further in. We stopped at 01 43.54N 124 58.75E in 14m mud with all the room required to swing.
With the tide coming in we chose to dive the north side of the channel towing the dinghy. It was an OK shallow dive on our left shoulder and deep, dark water on our right disappearing to 40m. One might have expected to see a shark cruising back and forth – alas all the sharks seem to have disappeared since we've been in SE Asia. Too many fishermen, too many nets.

Teluk Korakora proved an excellent, sheltered stop for the night and one we'd recommend.
