Tuesday 8 September Lembeh Straits

Leaving the rolly anchorage in Bangkka was easy. Trying to motor into 25 knots on the nose but with the current with us was less amusing. It had been our intention to anchor off the Kunkungan dive resort. With the wind blowing hard from the southwest it would have offered no protection. Again, the charts were inadequate and the satellite image led us to a far better bay with south through west to north protection with good hills around. Here we found a 20m spot to drop the hook and settled back into a wide comfortable area with all the room needed to swing 360° if needed.
Once we were settled there was time to pick up the binoculars and scan the shore. To our right is a fishing village and on our stern a dive resort – the Black Sand Dive Resort. We popped over to say hello, a sign on the beach read 'welcome to Black Sand Resort', more welcoming than a Private sign. Unfortunately as we arrived the manager was driving out of the gate on his way to Bitung. However, we were given a phone number and were able to talk later in the evening. Kim, a Dane, couldn't have been more welcoming. We're going to see him tomorrow to arrange to dive with his boats and guides.
