We
reached our clearance port of Tarakan in Indonesia at dusk last night
following a pre-dawn start from Tawau, our last Malaysian port. The
Customs, Immigration and Quarantine officers were clearing in the
boats which had arrived earlier in the day and worked late to do ours
before finishing for the night. All went smoothly and they were
friendly guys.

Today
was our orientation day, ie picking up SIM cards for the phones and
changing Ringgits to Rupiah. To help us we had the services of
Humphrey from the rally and the tourist office – all delightful
people.
Perhaps
the only part which wasn't so smooth was the dinghy dock. Tarakan's
not set up for an influx of 15 small tenders but set to to allow us
to tie to the customs boat alongside a high wharf. From here we
could climb over the customs boat and then a ladder up to the wharf
which was a challenge for those with bad knees, hips or a nervous
disposition.
It was
a hot day so David and didn't feel like walking far; we shared lunch
with Steve and Julie of Samsara, checked out the market and caught a
taxi bus back to the port. Then it was a quiet night on board.
