On our first day we took the dinghy through the pass; high walls of rock, small caves, a bat cave and jungle on either side with swirling eddies and gin clear water. It's just over a mile long. When the current was flowing into the bay I snorkelled the whole way. Just before I hopped in the water we saw three dolphins swimming against the current going out to sea. They might have waited 2 minutes for me to join them! It was a super charged drift passing over boulders and swirling clouds of fish and at the end I could stop and look at the walls covered with a myriad of jewel colours from soft corals, sponges, worms and sea squirts.
My experience snorkelling encouraged us to try diving on two bommies which lie in the path of the current entering and exiting the pass. We timed it for slack water yet still found a strong flow in occasional places and long, long whip corals and big sea fans which are evidence of high water flow. We did more snorkelling and a further dive on the wall on an island. All good stuff and the days just passed with perfect ease...
