Tuesday 28 October This one's too deep but this one's just right

Late afternoon yesterday we finally came to an anchorage which wasn't too deep or too many insects.  We'd left Fam in the hope of finding somewhere to anchor and then to dive on Penemu, or Groot Fam, island to the north of Fam.  Penemu is really, really deep all the way up to the cliffs.  There's one mooring ball for liveaboard boats a way offshore, too far to reach dive sites in our small dinghy.  Plan A aborted, plan B begun.
Plan B was to continue 11 miles east to the Yangello channel which separates Yangello island from the west end of Gam island.  The channel is deep and winding but with mangrove lined inlets at intervals.  We weren't able to find anything less than 30m which gave us room to swing on our anchor chain and not enough room for two boats as we're travelling with Zorana.  The place also had the potential for being a haven for mosquitoes; shallow pools of water and no breeze so plan B was shelved and plan C, our last hope for the day, begun.
This time we were lucky; charts and satellite images showed we could find shelter in a large bay on the south side of Gam island, 5 miles from the channel.  Late afternoon the two boats were anchored side by side in sand behind a large island without name.  Our night was perfectly peaceful.
Another beautiful sunset at Besir
This morning we were out and about in the dinghy once more looking for potential snorkel or dive spots.  I did jump in the water to swim along the outer reef with David following in the dinghy.  I saw a lot of sand, some patches of coral, one large black tip shark and one small turtle.  What we did find though was an intricate network of hidden bays and passages around the edge of the big bay, hidden treasures of natural beauty.
