With our cupboards getting increasingly bare it was time to make a hit and run trip to Waisai for provisions and data top up for internet.
From the anchorage at Frewin it's 8 miles to Waisai. On our last visit we stopped in the uncomfortable ferry harbour as this was recommended by the rally. This time we had better advice from a cruiser who's been here before and anchored right in front of the town in shallower water. From here we could take the dinghy around the headland and tie up to the jetty at the fresh market come back to Jackster to drop off the heavy bags before going up the river and tying up to another jetty in the centre of town. This is far more convenient than the ferry bay but still susceptible to the prevailing southerly swell. It must have been our turn to be lucky today. We bought vegetables, the ATM gave us money, a decent lunch and a supermarket with limited, but reasonable stocks of goods we actually wanted, ie wheat
flour for bread, frozen chicken. All of this and then back to Frewin in time for afternoon tea.
