Wednesday 29 July Galvanising chain and anchor

and after
A prime reason to come to Straits Quay in Penang was to have our chain re-galvanised. We'd heard very good things about a company based in nearby Butterworth and our chain is three years old and sheds rusty flakes on to the deck each time it's lowered and raised.

In the end we opted to have both chain and the anchor double dipped (double dipped = longer lasting). Steelway collected 100m of chain weighing 228 kgs and our 33kg Rocna anchor late Monday afternoon and had it all back to us this afternoon. A 48 hour turnaround! I believe it's not always as fast; we were lucky to be here at a quieter time.
See the before and after pictures and you'll see why we're smiling. The shiny chain is put away in the anchor locker. When it was delivered heavy rain was threatening and there wasn't time to take Patrick Lichfield portraits dockside.
