Our four weeks flew past and all too soon it was
time to clear out and begin the meander back to Malaysia. The trip back including stopping at the most
northerly bay on Koh Lanta. The beach here is beautiful; two miles of curving
white sand backed by low rise hotels and restaurants. Behind the beach road, more shops including
one selling home made gelato (oooh) and a massage shop opposite (aaah).

the offending slab of concrete |
Lanta is just the right size to hire a motorbike
and leisurely ride around in a day. From
our base in the north west of the island we travelled the east coast road to
the Old Town, more tourist town now, formerly a fishing village, with views
across to mainland Thailand. Halfway
down the island there's a road over the hill to connect to the west side which
is the coast we sail down. While we were
heading south on this road we came to a small town with more traffic and roads
of variable quality. It was while we
were stationary waiting for a truck to pass a narrower spot that it's wheel
threw up chunks of the concrete road. A small fragment hit David in the face. A
larger piece struck the bone below my elbow.
It hurt. We got a bag of ice from a cafe and I iced it until the pain
reduced, took photos for posterity, and then we carried on. In the end there
was not much bruising, but a hard lump stayed for over a week.

Queen of the scooter |
As sunset approached we were back in the main town
and visited the night market to buy little fish for Polly and a roast chicken
supper for us. I also made like a local
lady riding my scooter.
The rest of the trip back to Langkawi was day
hopping island to island, pretty anchorages and kind seas all the way.
