On
the island linked to Nassau by two road bridges is a very big resort:
two hotels towers rise more than twenty stories and are painted sand
pink, another hotel is ten stories. There are theme parks, a lagoon
and beach, two marinas, an aquarium and a casino. The only thing
they forgot to add is a pair of Mickey Mouse ears.

who's dinghy? |
I
was trying to think of an adjective to describe the marina fees, high
doesn't reflect the cost. Exorbitant is a better word. At U$7 per
foot per day it is only for the well heeled boat owner. Our dinghy would cost $70 to dock! For visitors to the
island there is a daily fee which allows entry to all the attractions
and areas, but if you enter quietly by the back door, or the sea
door, by dinghy and tie up in the corner of the marina it's free.
We
went by dinghy in through the marina entrance and found an empty
berth in the corner where we could tie up without being in the way of
other boat traffic and walked in. The hotels are big, the sculptures
big, the malls are air conditioned and the casino is smokey, even in
mid afternoon with the sun shining there were hungry people feeding
the slot machines.
What
we did like was a restaurant below ground level where you can dine
and watch the fish swimming. They even have a full grown manta ray
in the pool.
tuna for lunch? |
Atlantis
was nice to see for the curiosity factor, nice to spend an hour or
two off the boat while we wait for visas and parcels.
