Using
the current predictions in Navionics we made an early start from Sag
Harbour to reach the western end of Long Island with the water moving
in our favour rather than against us.
It
was late in the afternoon when we motored into the harbour and
anchored on the western side of the bay as far away from the ferry
channel as we could manage.
We
went ashore to use the free internet at the library for me to book an
air ticket (still no coverage on Metro) and have dinner at an Irish
bar. Unfortunately the only place where you can leave you dinghy is
at the marina and they charge $10 for 24 hours. It was a quick dash
in and leave next morning. With my flight booked from JFK in two
days we needed to beat feet; no time to make a stop in Oyster Bay to
see a Vanderbilt house and it's observatory.
