26 October 2009 Adopting an orphaned kid

Some boaters have dogs, some cats, a few have parrots. We thought we'd be different and get a goat. At least with a goat you can eat it when you tire of it eatings everything. Only kidding, this little chap was the pet of the fisherman living on the beach. I think they eaten his mother. Walked on the beach and then spent the afternoon preparing for an overnight sail to Los Roques about 90 miles north west from here.
The anchor came up at 5pm and we headed out into the sunset. The wind was stronger than forecast and right on the beam which is the best place for us. Soon we were up to 7 ½ knots and flying along in rolly seas. In order not to arrive in Los Roques too early, you need good overhead sunlight to navigate the reefs, we had to shorten sail and slow down. Not the best option as this meant we had to spend more hours with the waves rolling onto our starboard quarter. However, it was the safest and the star show was wonderful with many shooting stars to watch through the night.
