10 December 2009 Ginger nuts cometh
Hurrah! The supermarket got a delivery of ginger nut biscuits so we were able to buy 8 bags, or 8lbs of ginger nuts for ships stores. Ginger nuts have all the right qualities for the crew of a yacht in warm climes. They don't melt in the heat like chocolate would, they go well with a cup of tea and ginger calms the stomach if you have seasickness. David has never been sea sick in his life. I have had two occasions in the last year when the wave action has made me feel queasy. The first night we left Florida and crossed the Gulf Stream a year ago and a month ago on a night crossing from Tortuga to Los Roques when we had biggish seas rolling us from abaft of the beam. Our next crossing is the biggest test to date. The passage from Curacao to Colombia is as one of the most notorious passages in the Caribbean and has been likened to the Bay of Biscay. Needless to say, we are waiting for the most favourable conditions before setting out or it will take more than a few ginger nuts to keep me from up chucking.
