Sunday, 4 April It's a small world

San Cristobal has changed from when we were here 4 1/2 years ago on a diving holiday when we met for the first time.

Firstly, the weather is hot and humid.  We were wearing jumpers in Nov 05.  The town of Cristobal has had a major facelift.  There's a posh esplanade and more shops, hotels and restaurants.  The sea lions are still here in big numbers.  In the harbour there are 30 yachts, fishing boats and 6 to 7 dive boats waiting for clients to arrive from the airport which we can see through the houses.

The first hour we were here in the harbour, anchor down and sipping our 'we're here beers' I was checking our neeighbours with the binoculars and what do I alight on?  MV Deep Blue, the same dive boat we were on.  What a coincidence..  We said we'd like to see her again and lo, she's right here waiting for the next guests to arrive.

We took a chance and went over in the dinghy to see if we could go aboard for a nostalgic visit.  Luckily we found a crew member who speaks English and explained our story. He invited us aboard.  It's strange what the mind recalls - some things we were spot on and others we'd forgotten.  Taking trips down memory lane is a sure sign of getting older.  What wasn't forgeotten was the waiter, Eric.  He was on board and he & David recognised each other!  Here he is with us.
