Thursday, 25 March Isla Taboga
Isla Taboga is a small island with a big history. Paul Gaugin was a patient at the hospital here recovering from the fever he picked up when working on the construction on the Panama Canal. I didn't know he'd been a labourer. Perhaps from here he caught a boat to Tahiti. Perhaps we're following in his sail steps. A young JFK did some of his naval training on this island in the 50's. On the beach there are the remains of an old wooden boat. It's hard to tell how old but you can clearly see the remains keel and ribs with the iron bolts at low water.
